About South Boulevard
As I build South Boulevard, I find myself seeing how intimately Professor Sycamore is tied into the themes of Pokémon XY. To me, celebrating him is to also celebrate Kalos, and the games themselves. Sycamore is a big part of the games, so to me, enjoying one also requires understanding of the other... Very few characters in the game embody the themes of Pokémon XY so well than Professor Sycamore, which I think is no coincidence... but South Boulevard, to me, isn't just a webshrine to Professor Sycamore the character in isolation but a love letter to Pokémon XY, games of such sincerity and heart that I can't help but love.
I value sincerity when it comes to expression above all else - technical skill, final product, ect matters far less to me than the ideas and feelings that people want to share. The XY games, for all of their technical flaws, are sincere... XY, Kalos, there is an authenticity to these things that radiate throughout the games. It's not exactly quantifiable. SOVL, if you will. Or, as Sycamore himself might say: A certain je ne sais quoi.
I'm not very good at explaining things, unfortunately...
This webshrine is a way of celebrating not just a character I love but the sincerity of the games that tried to make something meaningful, even when they couldn't perfectly executed... in a world where many things feel cynical, calculcated, and checkmarked, there's something nice about experiences that feel like they came from people who cared. That's what I see in XY, and in Professor Sycamore - an earnest attempt to express something genuine about connection and the value of the moment. He's very authentic. I think it's worth celebrating, even with all the imperfections, or maybe especiaally with all the imperfections.
It's kind of like mega evolution in a way... it's the bond that matters the most, less so about the end result.
